Although we can''t say that Budapest always shows its bright side and has a positive effect on people, there are plenty of opportunities to re-energize your body and soul. There''s no lack of costless solutions, but this time around we''ve collected possibilities which are not free, though offer an outstanding price-value ratio.

Kempinski The Spa - More is more

A lot of hotels in Budapest could claim to be whole little universes while being part of the city. Kempinski's Wellness department offers treatments and massage opportunities which are definitely worth the cash. As a non-hotel guest customer, you can splash into Kempinski Spa’s treatmeants even if you’re not in possession of a wellness or gym ticket. As for us, we were lucky enough to give the Signature Treatment a try (37 500 HUF).

In Kempinski The Spa, a sensation of luxury overcomes your senses, even when standing at the reception - we got a complete showering set before we filled in a questionnaire regarding our health condition. Then we got to the two-hour treatment's location. Here, all we needed was ten minutes to completely relax ourselves thanks to the comfortable massage bed, expert hands, luxury cosmetics, and the healing power of lava rocks. The essence of the therapy lies in its complexity: we get treated by body scrubs, essential oils, lava rock massage, and scalp massage.

Az élet étterme (The Restaurant of Life) – Inner reset

Let's say that one day you discover that the reason for your weariness is not the smog, the constant hurrying, or even the flocks of people on trams 4 and 6, it's your relationship with yourself that stirs the trouble, and if your goal is to 'get better', the only thing you can do is to alter the way you live. For starters, you might want to reform your eating habits.

That's where Az élet étterme comes into the picture. Their goal is to prepare foods from raw ingredients at both of their restaurants (one on the Pest side, and one on the Buda side). With their raw vegan dishes, being healthy doesn't rid you of the pleasures of eating. However, if you want to do no more than to include the fresh vegetable- and fruit juices, vegan bites and cakes in your diet occasionally, it's still worth to give Az élet étterme a try.

Sóker Salt Caves & Relaxation Centre

At Mozsár Street 7. building a sauna atop a salt cavern is not a big deal. After a sixty-minute salt-cave tour, we're certain that this place must have some energy-boosting powers. We just don't know which one to try next: yoga, sound therapy, chi-kung gymnastics, meditation, or maybe japanese or sound massage?

Napfényes Cukrászda (Sunny Confectionery) - A sweet a relax

While sweets might not be the healthiest things in the world, there is a definite connection between confectionery delicacies and happiness. Fortunately, there's a confectionery in Budapest where you can remain healthy while filling your tummy with sweet treats. Napfényes, located in Kiskorona Street (on the Buda side), offers not only vegan sweets, but also cakes for the lactose-intolerant, and those with diabetes or any sort of food allergy.

Corinthia Hotel Budapest Royal Spa – Historical perfection

Corinthia Hotel Budapest's wellness department was first opened in 1889 as a turkish bath. Seven years ago, after some minor modifications and renovations, they decided to return to the original concept. The Royal Spa offers facilities for non-guest visitors on 1000 square metres - we chose the holistic spa treatment (30 500 HUF) as an extra.

They put the warm satchets filled with salt crystals and lavender on specific points of the body, then continue the treatment with a lavender cream massage. The facial treatment is not as exciting, but includes rose water and relaxes you just right.

Györgytea Sample Store – Herbs are always right

The herbs from Bükkszentkereszt are well-known all around the world, which is reason enough for the opening of this sample store. In Bank Street, you can find herb-treasures capable of re-energizing and healing your body. Moreover, the owner, Gyuri bácsi, will gladly chime in with his two cents on which herbs you should buy. We tried two herbal teas, Bükki varázs (Magic of Bükk) and Téli tea (Winter tea), both 1000 HUF, and each gulp was a healthy delight.
