It is usually said that “home is where the heart is”. It is quite evident that the shortest way to one’s heart – figuratively speaking – is through the stomach, and it’s the cuisine of your homeland that warms your heart the most. We’ve already explored Budapest’s Spanish gastro-options, now it’s time to go Greek.

Gyradiko

Gyradiko, located on the Buda side, is known to be the best Greek restaurant in Budapest. This is the place you always come back to. Moussaka, papoutsakia or baklava, among many others, can be found in the not-expensive-at all selection. To make things even better and easier, there’s no need to wander out to the outer parts of the city, because a second Gyradiko has been recently opened on the Pest side, in the 13th district.

Dionysos Taverna

Dionysos Taverna managed to move a piece of Greece to the Pest bank of the Danube. Surrounded by a mediterranean Greek style, with its white walls and blue ceilings, you can order any Greek dish from soups through salads to fish. Top it all off with a shot of metaxá!

Zorbas Tverna

Greece can also be found in Zorbas Tverna, located in downtown Budapest’s Podmaniczky utca. Don’t miss out on the Greek scalloped potatoes, the typical souvlaki, or the amazing Paidakia! There's a huge variety of dishes, and live and authentic Greek tunes are also a frequent occurrence. Perfect atmosphere.
