Dario Argento
's 1977
horror classic

Suspiria
is one of the greatest cult films of the genre to this day. On this special night the composer of the original film soundtrack Claudio Simonetti will perform live the film's music with his friends on the
A38
, with the film being screened during the performance. This unusual event will announce the next
Titanic International Film Festival
coming up in April.
Italian horror director Dario Argento’s 1977 flick
Suspiria
is a classic of its genre, surrounded by cultic reverence to this day. It is one of the cornerstones of giallo, a genre blending the characteristics of German expressionist films, mystic-erotic thrillers, cheap slashers, and the films of Cinecitta. The lasting impact of the movie is not only due to the fantastic visual world and the beautiful set design, but also to the highly atmospherical score, which was written and performed by
Goblin
, one of the most influential Italian progrock bands of their time. The music mastermind of Goblin, keyboard player and composer Claudio Simonetti, who is of Brazilian origin, has written scores for countless horror movies, among them for many Argento pieces as well as George A. Romero’s classic
Dawn of the Dead
.

Full of breakups, revivals and new lineups, the career of Goblin took a turn in 2013 when on the North American tour of the original lineup (which they embarked on with Secret Chiefs 3, the band of Faith No More guitarist Trey Spruance that has played on A38 before) Simonetti came up with the idea of an epic project. He decided to form Goblin with a new lineup and hold screening-concert combinations in London where the band performed the soundtrack of
Suspiria
while the film played in the background.
