Piano Day takes place on the 88th day of each year, in line with the number of keys on the keyboard. In leap years such as 2020, it jumps to the 89th day. Hosted at Müpa, all performances will be Hungarian premières, and all of the international guest artists will be making their Hungarian débuts.

Of the Hungarians, the pianist vaghy associates the vibrations produced by the 88 keys of the piano with electronic music. Endre Kertész, a cellist familiar from many line-ups, will also be appearing. Representing Sweden will be Jakob Lindhagen and Vargkvint, the former is also known for his film music, the latter having recently released an album inspired by the ocean. The piano/ambient/electronic chamber pop of Tom Adams is augmented by his falsetto voice, while the German piano/cello sibling duo CEEYS use vintage Socialist-era instruments from their time growing up in East Germany. The closing concert will be performed by Italy’s Luca D’Alberto, who can only rarely be tempted to stray from his homeland. With two guest artists joining him, his electro-acoustic programme promises to be a grand and complex experience.
