Compagnie Pál Frenák - Birdie
This performance by choreographer Pál Frenák centres around themes of isolation and confinement, freedom and endlessness. It looks at the parts of us we hide deep inside, our limits and how to overcome them, whether they are psychological, physical or social, or rooted in history. What creates the division and isolation in our lives? What is missing that could open our borders and set us free? How does fantasy and imagination work, and do we construct different realities to make the present liveable, and render the past forgotten? What happens when we are reminded of the reality that was pushed aside in society?
Pál Frenák took his inspiration for the performance from images of flying, Alan Parker’s drama, Birdy, William Wharton’s novel of the same name and Raymond Depardon’s documentary, San Clemente.
