Folk Dance House Day is held every year by the Franz Liszt Academy of Music to celebrate Hungarian folk culture and the tradition of ‘dance houses’. The event is co-organised by the Hungarian Heritage House and Liszt Academy Concert Centre and features two prestigious award ceremonies, as well. The Halmos Béla Trophy, established by the Hungarian Heritage House, is presented to a young musician actively playing traditional folk music in a foreign country, maintaining contact with Hungarian communities there. The Halmos Béla Memorial Medal, established by the Association of Friends of the Hungarian Heritage House, recognises outstanding professional and community work in the folk dance-house movement.
