The Lăzarea Artists' Colony, which has been thriving in the heart of Transylvania for 50 years and earned the prestigious Hungarian Heritage Award, has grown into an internationally recognized artistic phenomenon. Its five-decade legacy proves that with a strong vision, significant creative hubs and innovative artistic strategies can flourish even far from major cultural centers.
To mark this milestone, a series of exhibitions kicked off in 2024, culminating in a major spring showcase at Kunsthalle. Opening on 7 March, the exhibition presents a carefully curated selection that captures the spirit of place (genius loci) while embracing thematic and stylistic diversity. Through the concept of ‘the Lăzarea quality', it aims to highlight the universal artistic values that define the colony's rich heritage, which you can view until 27 April.
