Manó Mai
lived and worked in the house dedicated to his memory from 1894 until his death in 1917. Around 3,000-4,000 pictures were shot in the studio every year, which amounts to almost 60,000 images over 23 years. While only a fraction of the shots survive, the size of the oeuvre is still considerable.
300 photos
have been selected for the audience’s viewing pleasure.
On the pictures you can see everyday people of the late-19th and early-20th centuries. Any of these figures could have been your grandfather or great-grandfather - you can see how different they were, their clothing and the poses, which carry their own meanings.
