American football coach Tony D’Amato (Al Pacino) has led the Miami Sharks through thick and thin. Now, his team is struggling with consecutive losses, injuries and other issues. Off the field, D’Amato’s marriage is in a crisis, and he’s also in a serious conflict with Christina Pagniacci (Cameron Diaz), the young team owner.
