Listed among the most renowned orchestras today, the
New York Philharmonic

which celebrates its 175th anniversary in 2017

is a record-breaking ensemble in diverse aspects: in 2010, the band performed its 15,000th concert, a number that no other orchestra has reached so far. Back then, the New York Philharmonic was already headed by current music director
Alan Gilbert
, who remained in the same position since 2009, and he will lead the formation until the end of the 2016/2017 season. Following predecessors Kurt Masur and Lorin Maazel, Gilbert significantly reformed and diversified the world-famous ensemble's profile, opening up to contemporary and American music. The band's upcoming Budapest concert will feature the works of composers who had links to New York, including Hungarian maestro Béla Bartók.
