A Drama of Celebration ...56 - 16...
is a cross-disciplinary art collaboration, created to honor the 60th anniversary of
Hungary’s 1956 Revolution
by recalling the atmosphere of this proud episode of Magyar history. In addition to the uprising in
Hungary
– owing to several similarities – the performance focuses on the anti-communist rebellions and uprisings of the
whole region

The artists seek to explore the possibilities of a present-day dialogue with historical events that no longer have current political relevance, but have not yet receded into the mist of memory. They do so with the collaboration of such creators and artists who already consider communism as “part of history”.

Dancing on the periphery of theater and performance art – through installations, the paintings of
Erzsébet Vojnich
, an extract from
Heiner Müller
’s HamletMachine, as well as through excerpts from the works of
Péter Nádas
and
Tibor Hajas
– the characters strive to transcend the boundaries of an imaginary Iron Curtain between various genres.
