The Újbuda Jazz Festival
, one of the major events and cultural traditions of  the city's music scene, is held for the tenth time this year. We can say without exaggeration that in its own genre – in improvisational music – the festival is significant, featuring the most serious artists of the scene in the recent years. It is a real international jazz celebration at the beginning of every September, which focuses either on the “Bartók” custom mixing Hungarian folk tradition with contemporary experiments, the great sixties and seventies era of German jazz, on the New York avant-garde, or the world-famous Polish scene. This time, the programs put female soloists into the center of focus.

In the strongly male-oriented jazz scene, women could not prevail for a long time, and the role of female instrumentalists was neglected compared to singers. Luckily, this situation changed, and lots of great female instrumental soloists get a place on the stage.

The programs of the Újbuda Jazz Festival attempt to show this development, and to prove that – similarly to literature, film and fine art – in order to improve “experimental”, improvisational music, we need that typical female voice.
