The Thinking Traveller, a villa rental company, researched which castles are the most often featured on social media. Combing through data on Instagram and counting hashtags, they created a list of the 15 most popular castles and palaces in Europe. Buda Castle snatched the 8th spot, pushing the Palace of Versailles back to the 9th place. See why!

The Thinking Traveller dived deep into Instagram to see how many photos and videos had been posted about castles and palaces across Europe. Based on the number of hashtags, they ranked the 15 most Instagrammed spots. Buda Castle received 205,807 mentions (with the hashtag #budacastle), making it the 8th on the list, overtaking the most beautiful Baroque Palace of France, the Palace of Versailles.

See exquisite pieces from Hungarian and international painters at the Hungarian National Gallery. Have lunch at Baltazár Budapest, 21 Magyar VendéglőAranybástya restaurant or Pierrot Café Restaurant, then treat yourself to a slice of cake at Ruszwurm. On your way down to the river bank, explore romantic stairways and wander around at Várkert Bazár.

Tip: You can enjoy astonishing views from almost any point of the Castle District. However, if you wish to level it up a bit, climb up to the dome of the Hungaria National Gallery (the visit is subject to weather conditions, and you need a valid entrance ticket), or visit the White Raven, the Hilton Budapest's fancy rooftop bar.
