One of the most important railway connections between east and west Europe runs through south Budapest, now facilitated by the newly opened renovated bridge linking the train line to the Danube.

The bridge was rebuilt as a vital section of the Southern Railway Loop and plays an important role not only in passenger traffic, but also in international freight. Three of Europe’s most important trans-European railway corridors pass through here.

It connects Dutch ports and Spain with Romania, the Black Sea, the Balkans and Ukraine. Some 90 percent of the railway traffic between the eastern and western parts of Hungary, passes over this crossing.

Thanks to the renovation and capacity expansion, the bridge will be able to reliably serve passenger and freight transport in the coming decades.
