Major A38 show for top rock trio Dennie Wander to launch new single

Between lively rehearsals for the band’s biggest gig of the year – “I’m a bit nervous, to be honest,” admits Dennie – we get the lowdown on Dennie Wander’s latest single and upcoming plans.

The A38 concert on Thursday, 2 June showcases new single Never Know.

“Having Michael Smith here was great,” begins Londoner Dennie, who formed his eponymous trio shortly before the pandemic. With his previous experience in the music business in the UK, Dennie knew that a famous producer would make all the difference, Smith having worked with Elvis Costello and the Spencer Davis Group.

So it proved to be. “He was super professional. We did the whole song in 48 hours, the band followed his lead perfectly. It gave me a lot of confidence, to be honest.”

The resulting single, Never Know, Dennie’s paean to giving it your best shot, is tight and to the point. The video, featuring Dennie and the band in Óbuda, Újlipótváros and at home, was similarly filmed and wrapped in a day.


“Big thanks to DoP Bence Pénzes, editor Dávid Rácsai and the team,” says Dennie, whose dog Pepper even gets in on the act.

A Londoner who relocated to Budapest after a long stint busking around Europe, Dennie has now found his calling in Budapest. Teaming up with Hungarian-Australian bass player Tibor Gede and Hungarian-Canadian drummer Sly Juhás, Dennie has a solid, experienced trio backing him to present his original songs.

Having put together a string of singles during the pandemic, releasing Catching My Eye to coincide with their last show at the Turbina Cultural Centre, Dennie Wander also have dates lined up in Slovakia and around Hungary after the A38 performance. No other Budapest concerts are scheduled for the time being, although that can always change.

“This will be probably be our last appearance in Budapest for quite a while,” says Dennie. “Then we’ll be going into the studio to record new material.” Watch this space!
