Grand Opening is a large-scale musical event taking place across Hungary between 4-6 June. This will be the first live combined cultural get-together after many long and difficult months. The Budapest locations will be Margaret Island and the courtyard of City Hall.

Signalling a great cultural awakening after shutdown hibernation, Grand Opening runs from 4pm on Friday, 4 June to late evening, Sunday, 6 June. At 14 prestigious and prominent locations across Hungary, from Fertőrákos cave in Sopron to the Nagyerdei open-air stage in Debrecen, top-class orchestras and musicians will be performing for free, under the auspices of the Association of Hungarian Arts Festivals and sister organisations.

For details, see here – the site Hungarian-only but schedule information and reservations are relatively straightforward. Each performance will last around an hour.

Here in Budapest, the two settings will be the ruins of the medieval convent on Margaret Island and the courtyard of City Hall on Városháza utca in town. Both take place on Saturday, 5 June at 3.30pm (book here) and 8pm (book here) respectively.
