With spring upon us and more pandemic restrictions, the Budapest Transport Company, BKK, and MÁV suburban rail are promoting cycling by allowing passengers to take their bikes for free on many trams, buses and trains every weekend until October. You’ll just need a standard ticket or pass. The rest of the week, an extra ticket or special monthly bicycle pass is required.

Weekend cyclists will be able to use many trams, buses and suburban trains around Budapest until October without needing an extra pass or ticket. A pictogram will indicate which carriage is suitable.

About third of trams can now carry bicycles, in Pest numbers 1, 12, 14 and 28, and in Buda, 17, 41, 56, 56A, 59, 59A, 59B and 61.

You can also take your bike for free at weekends on HÉV suburban trains, including the line to Szentendre but not the H7 to Csepel due to renovation. The cogwheel railway, the D14 boat and trolleybus 77, plus modern buses used on routes 65-165 and 212, will also be cycle-friendly.
