Designer of innovative accessories and co-founder of key label Müskinn, Noémi Sziládi has decided to follow her nose and create her own brand, Kamay Ko. The focus is on sustainability, technological experimentation and daring visuality. The pieces are not simply environmentally friendly in materials and manufacturing, they also encourage you to live your everyday life in a sustainable fashion. The latest photo series for their debut collection, Goodbye Plastic, guides you through Budapest's rarely seen Chinatown, which inspired this pioneering launch.
When it comes to designing Kamay Ko clothes, Asian culture, fashion and everyday life are the main inspirations. That’s why the Goodbye Plastic collection aims to showcase the lives of diaspora communities.
It puts the classic bag patterns found around Chinatown into a new form, in such a way that they can continue to serve an eco-friendly life. The patterns are all revised versions of the classic bags sold in Chinatowns in New York and Budapest. They are not only typical of these neighbourhoods, but also carry generations of wisdom.
Sustainable memories
“These emotions and memories can’t be lost with disappearing bags, which is why we have adapted them into a new, sustainable form,” writes the designer.
The clothes dreamt up by Kamay Ko were photographed by the award-winning Krisztina Szalay, who has been capturing the everyday lives of those working at the Chinese market for six years. Before, it was a factory complex.
Industrial fashion
“Thanks to Kriszti, we get a glimpse into the secret world of an industrial-looking market imbued with Chinese culture,” says Noemi.
Crowded streets, rushing rickshaws, shouting vendors, lots of colourful, unfamiliar products and the smell of Chinese food dominate the images. They wanted to capture this atmosphere and contrast the message of Goodbye Plastic collection with overproduction and the endless supply of packaging and plastics.
The products currently available, tops, hoodies and linen shopping bags, are the first pieces in the new collection. The second release, to be launched later this year, will include items such as the first Kamay Ko bags.
