Let’s get voting! The Bridgehunter’s Chronicles, a digital celebration of this particular form of architecture, is running their 2020 Bridgehunter Awards, and Budapest is on the list! Voting takes place until 22 January.

Budapest is no stranger to architectural accolades. In the past year and a half, she was distinguished as the 2019 European Best Destination, awarded the audience prize in Architecture and Preservation by Architizer Magazine and, in July 2020, received gold medals at the International Real Estate Development Awards in Paris.

Now we have another opportunity to celebrate the city’s architecture: through her bridges!

The Bridgehunter’s Chronicles is an online publication focusing on historic bridges both in the USA and Europe. Each bridge is featured so that visitors to the site can appreciate the individuality of the architecture, learn about historic bridges in their part of the world and beyond, and add new places to their travel itineraries. The archive is full of incredible examples which will send a bridge fan's heart a-pounding.

This year, our own city of Budapest is in the running, with its diverse array of bridges making it a strong contender. Which bridge is your favourite? Do you enjoy a classic stroll across the Chain Bridge at dusk, when the lights from Parliament twinkle in the Danube below?

Are you a fan of the emerald Liberty Bridge, with its summer no-car parties, and young couples blithely ignoring the signs to not climb upon on it? Do you jump on the 4/6 tram to admire the length of Margaret Bridge with its exquisite yellow forms?

Whichever one you like best, let's head over to the 2020 Bridgehunter Awards and cast our ballots for what we know to be true: that Budapest has the best bridges of them all!
