It's another success for Budapest! This just in: the 2020 Bridgehunter Awards winners have been announced, and Budapest's elegant Danube crossings have come in on top.

The 2020 Awards is a competition organised by the Bridgehunter’s Chronicles, an online publication focusing on historic bridges both in the USA and Europe. Each bridge in the database is carefully recorded and photographed so that visitors to the site can easily browse the collection, learn about bridges' histories and maybe even add a new place to their travel itineraries. The archive is full of incredible examples which will send any bridge fan's heart a-pounding.

Its annual competition opens to the public for the popular choice awards. This year, after all the votes have been counted, Budapest has won with flying colours. With 58.9% of the votes, Budapest is followed by Waldheim (Germany), Warwickshire, Schwerin (Germany), Taischun County in China and the covered bridges of Quebec.

Jason D. Smith, who runs the website, says he is pleased with the results. "I was wondering when Budapest was going to win this," he says, "especially after my visit there in 1999!"

We have to say, we are pleased too, and we look forward to voting in the 2021 awards!
