Four spaces in District II are currently without a name, inspiring the local council to christen them with one theme in mind: women. Now the public has until Thursday, 4 March, to suggest suitable names for the places listed below.

In honour of International Women’s Day, 8 March, the mayor of District II, Gergely Örsi, has outlined four spaces in this Buda neighbourhood whose names will honour notable females:

Today in Budapest, 89% of streets bearing the names of real people are named after men and only 11% after women. For Women’s Day, we would like to change this ratio and name four hitherto anonymous public spaces in the district after women we are proud of,” writes the district mayor on his Facebook page.

For the next three days, the public is invited to make suggestions through the District II website (Hungarian-only). The four spaces concerned are:

Between the Mammut mall and Széllkapu Park, at right-angles to the Nagykörút by the vertical green wall;

Between Fő utca 53-55 and 59-61, the space leading to Bem rakpart;

Between Józsefhegyi utca 26 and 28, the space leading to two properties;

At 74-76, 78, 80 and 47, 49, 51-53 Frankel Leó út, the large space bordered by Harcsa utca.
