Despite recent restrictions, there are plenty of smaller musical events around Budapest before the summer is over. We’ve selected the best concerts and festivals to catch this month.
Amoeba – Pontoon BDAY #4
Pontoon is one of the most popular and lively outdoor hangouts in Budapest, overlooking the Danube and the Chain Bridge – and it’s celebrating its fourth birthday on 13 August. To make the occasion even more special, Amoeba bring brand new songs from their upcoming album.
You will find yourself listening to a variety of musical styles at Moped Loewen’s outdoor concert at Dürer Kert, on 13 August. The ten-member band with an international line-up bring experimental indie combined with prog, modern and avant-garde jazz elements. Entry is free.
Katlan Festival 2020
The Katlan Festival in Tárnok tends to be quite chilled, without masses of visitors. This means that it gets to be held between 14 and 16 August despite most festivals being cancelled this year. Here, techno lovers can expand their musical horizons, with an international line-up including Nico Moreno, MCMLXXXV and Herodot. On the list of Hungarian performers, there are names such as Zsiga Bernathy, Zvezda Beta and Detective Kelly.
Erik Sumo Band 15
The Erik Sumo Band came into existence 15 years ago, thanks to Ambrus Tövisházi. To celebrate the occasion, the band perform their biggest hits at Kobuci Kert on 22 August, joined by popular Hungarian singer Veronika Harcsa.
Aurevoir. + Parno Graszt
A real folk party takes place at Budapest Park on 26 August, as Aurevoir. celebrate their fifth birthday together with one of the most popular Gypsy bands in Hungary, Parno Graszt. And if that’s not enough, the concerts will be followed by a dance house.
