The area of Tabán was once a thriving Balkan community nestled along the Buda riverbank. In the early 20th century, the old buildings were destroyed to make way for more modern housing and infrastructure, although artists saved the area from obsolescence by documenting it with paintings and photographs. But as we turn back the pages of time, the old architecture and simple living quarters swim back into view.
Interactive educational developers, Hyperion Interaktív Oktatásfejlesztő, have created a short animation of the south side of Castle Hill to show the vibrant life which once existed here. See what used to stand in recognisable landmarks like the Rudas and Rác baths, as wooden boats meander down the Danube and livestock plod down dirt paths.
The company develops multimedia projects such as videos, teaching aids, documentaries and games, mainly for the purpose of recalling Hungarian history. For the time being, this 1:16 minute video of the Turkish reconstruction is only a teaser, with a longer version to be expected in the future.
