Get constructing – the virtual playground of Minecraft is bringing Budapest to life in the virtual world, and there’s still plenty of locations left to build. Put your creative caps on and set out to construct the Almássy Palace, the Hadik House and the Reformed Church on Szilágyi Dezső tér, among others!

The impressive feat of constructing Budapest in the world of Minecraft began some time ago, as we reported back in April. The aim was to get children exploring all over Budapest during the lockdown, from famous buildings to their immediate living environment and beyond, in a playful way. The diverse architectural periods of Budapest are all represented in the online reconstruction – from the colourful Zsolnay tiles of Dezso Szilagyi tér Presbyterian Church to the Bauhaus bottling plant on Margaret Island.

The latest round of construction started on 17 November, Budapest’s 147th birthday. Submissions will be accepted until 31 December, after which videos will be made flying over the buildings, with popular videographers choosing the very best.

In order to build in a 1:1 scale, the children participating in building efforts must get to know the dimensions and characteristic features of the area or building they have chosen. They get help for this on the MineBudapest site, but the ultimate goal is for them to research and look at the different architectural features on their own. Want to help build Budapest?
