The long holiday weekend of 23-25 October will be the last time this year that the Pest embankment opens exclusively to pedestrian and cyclists.

Every weekend for half a year, from May until this week, pedestrians and cyclists have been given the run of the lower embankment in downtown Pest, which was closed off to cars.

According to City Hall, the move has not increased congestion elsewhere. In other surveys they carried out, the initiative has proved a popular one, with 73% of respondents in favour. More than half, 59%, could envisage a car-free embankment in the long term.
