As soon as it starts snowing, locals break out the sledges and head for Normafa, a gentle, panoramic slope in the Buda hills easily accessible by car or bus. With today’s surprise snowfall, we sent out ace photographer Bálint Hirling to see what he could snap.

Popular year-round with hikers and dog-walkers, Normafa comes into its own as soon as snow falls. Kids take to their sledges, dogs frolic and the steep slope of János Hill alongside seems that less daunting.

And if you need warming up after a serious romp, the Síház right here is an atmospheric café/restaurant with aromatic mulled wine and filling main dishes.

Have a look and see how Normafa looked in all its snowy glory this morning.
