After standing abandoned for years, City Park's most stunning attraction, the Olof Palme House, is being repurposed for cultural events and hospitality. This heritage building has already been restored to regain its original pomp – which you can see in the video below – and the Olof Palme House will open to the public in the autumn.
Originally constructed for the 1885 National General Exhibition to showcase fine art, the Olof Palme House was highly praised for its colourfulness, thanks to its unique Zsolnay porcelain decorations on the façade. But after years of neglect, the building reached a critical condition, crying out for renovation. For this recent restoration, extensions added to the original building were demolished, the roof was revamped with huge glass surfaces and the vibrant Zsolnay tiles were restored.
After renovation is complete in the autumn, the building will host a temporary exhibition about the heyday of City Park, as well as a permanent display presenting Belle-Époque Budapest.
