Our regular round-up for the upcoming weekend offers plenty of suggestions for where to go, what to do and who should not be missed during the next three days. There are always so many happenings to choose from in Budapest – exhibitions, parties, live music, festivals and more – but here is our pick of the bunch:

Friday

9am - : Bear Festival at Budapest Zoo

Between Friday and Sunday, a bear festival is being held at Budapest Zoo, tied in with Carnival season and reducing the entrance fee for under-14s to 200 forints – provided they are dressed as a bear or carrying a teddy. Several other indoor and outdoor attractions await families, from feeding the pandas to helping train the seals.

11am - : Budapest International Documentary Film Festival at the CinemaCity Aréna

Award-winning films from nearly 30 countries feature, focusing on human fates and the most burning problems and questions of our age. The festival is English-friendly, all films screening in English or with subtitles.

7pm - : Disney on Ice at the Papp László Budapest Sportaréna

Get ready to enter a winter wonderland for Disney on Ice. A brand new live show presents the most magical Disney moments, from The Little Mermaid to TangledBeauty and the Beast and the animated movie that conquered the world, Frozen. Altogether six performances will be held this weekend.

10pm – : Bonita / Chico Bonito at Yellow Budapest Mamacitas and machos unite as Latin tunes take over at Yellow Budapest on Friday. Reggaeton, hip hop, R&B and trap turn up the heat while tasty drinks cool you down all night. Groups of four girls get a free prosecco between 10pm and 11pm. If you’re looking for a fun party for Friday night, this is where to go loco.

11pm – BlackStarz HipHop, R&B, Trap at VOLT Lokál

On Friday night, Dj Gozth, DJ O'Neal and Dj Ben Jr (Nigeria) rock the Akvárium with the biggest hip-hop, R&B and trap tunes. If you’re down with the freshest beats, make sure you don’t miss this party.

Saturday

4pm - : Judas Shoe Sale at Telep

On Saturday, vintage shop Judas is organising a secondhand shoe market in the gallery of the Telep café. Make sure to stop by if you’d like to refresh your footwear early for the sneaker season.

6pm – : Hair at the Bem Cinema Miloš Forman’s 1979 film adaptation of this popular but controversial musical brings it to life on the big screen. The story is an effective evocation of the hippie movement of the late ’60s. The film has left in its wake several iconic songs that many still hum and Berger’s iconic dinner table scene that is something to dream about during family gatherings. Original English audio, Hungarian subtitles.

7:30pm – Algiers at Dürer Kert

American experimental band Algiers are known for blending musical influences including gospel, industrial music and soul into their unique sound. Their eccentric concerts are perfect for letting off steam and dancing as if no one’s watching.

8pm - : Pandit Rajeev Janardan, Sharada Mushti, Devashish Pathak at Trafó

Students of 91-year-old sitar legend, Pandit Arvind Parikh, play rare Indian instruments, the rudra veena and the surbahar, on Saturday at the Trafó House of Contemporary Arts. Before the concert, at 7:15 pm, a documentary about Pandit Arvind Parikh will screen, and his special video message will be broadcast to the crowd.

11pm – Designer Drums: Mama Snake at Lärm

Danish techno star Sara Svanholm aka Mama Snake plays Lärm on Saturday. A woman of many talents, Sara also stars in the techno-trio Apeiron Crew, and is one of the leading artists at record label Ectotherm. She also produces her own songs.

Sunday

10am – 4pm: Kiskertpiac at Anker't

The first Kiskertpiac of the year takes place on Sunday at Anker’t. With Valentine’s Day around the corner, the theme is love. Besides the usual flowers, plants, organic design products and culinary treats, couples can find inspiration for an eco-chic wedding.

8pm - : John Garcia & The Band Of Gold, Dead Quiet at A38

The most laid-back stoner rock concert of the season will be hosted on the A38 Ship: John Garcia, the singer of Kyuss, Unida, Vista Chino and Hermano, finally visits Budapest with his solo act. Join John Garcia & The Band Of Gold for their charismatic live performance on Sunday.

12:30am: Super Bowl LIII Patriots v Rams at various venues

Grab that Bud and the hot wings, the annual gridiron spectacle is on Sunday. Rocky's, Bestia, Champs and many other places will be screening live action through the night – and throwing a party at the same time. For more details, check out our upcoming article this evening.
