A lake bisects Huawei’s expansive new facility, modelled on several European cities, including Hungary’s capital. Linking two parts of the campus over the waterway is where Liberty Bridge has been cloned to resemble the original of this statuesque Budapest landmark. The nine-square-kilometre campus site is even served by its own tramline that runs across the replica span, just how the numbers 47/49 cross Liberty Bridge in Budapest.
Architectural details around the new facility were revealed by American business news channel CNBC after their tech reporter Arjun Kharpal got an inside look. While construction on the complex is still ongoing, when ready it will embrace 12 European cities in its design, including Paris, Verona and Granada. So far, eight towns have been set up, with Oxford University among the monuments.
Major Budapest landmark and popular summer picnic spot Liberty Bridge is characterised by criss-crossed metal formations and bumpy metal rivets. The bridge was built for the 1896 Hungarian Millennial jubilee to commemorate the 1,000th anniversary of the Magyars’ arrival in Hungary. Habsburg Emperor Franz Josef was present for the opening ceremony, when he also nailed in the last rivet.
Mounted atop its pointed spires are large Turul birds, the nation’s mythological representation of perpetual power. According to photo documentation published by CNBC, similar statues adorn the replica bridge in China. We’ve contacted Huawei International for more details and we will post an update when we receive additional information.
