Bright and spacious corner store Margot Budapest has all things for a stylish appearance, yet its selection differs greatly from the high-street brands on offer along the focal shopping thoroughfare of Váci utca a stone’s throw away. Wide-brimmed hats, furry backpacks, velvet dresses and vividly patterned trousers are all part of a collection made up of lesser-known labels by Hungarian designers – just the kind of clothes and accessories to make you stand out from the crowd.

By the intersection of Irányi and Kéményseprő utca in downtown District V, the newly opened Margot concept store sells fluffy handbags by Anna Amélie, trousers printed with a space-inspired design by Anna Daubner and dresses that hit at mid-thigh.

Augmenting this artfully mixed merchandise are candy-coloured berets and hats, items bearing the Vecsei Millinery brand. You’ll also find silver rings and bracelets, part of the Dorivisy label. Then there’s the Grandpa collection, representing a line of stylish-yet-classic menswear.

These locally designed styles are presented in a new light at the sun-splashed Margot store, where the interior is to be regularly adjusted according to current collections and trends.

Unique design often comes at a price, but not at Margot. A modest sum of 9,500 forints buys you a bracelet, and T-shirts are available from 15,000 forints. A dress by Daubner sells for 65,000 forints.

Customers with more expensive tastes may select from the range of diamond rings. The top floor of the outlet operates as a workshop, where purchased products can be altered to best suit the needs of customers seeking that distinct look.
