Lana Del Rey, Kendrick Lamar and the Gorillaz all rock Sziget this year. Taking place between August 8th and 15th, Budapest’s biggest alfresco bash has beefed up their list of headliners for 2018 to present what’s considered one of the best line-ups in Sziget history. Most of these shows take place on the Sziget main stage, now brighter than ever, with certain acts worth checking out on the Mastercard Stage by A38.

The time has come for the dream-pop queen to bring her retro-romantic music to Budapest. Since releasing hit song Video Games in 2012, Del Rey’s melancholic art-pop music has evolved to become a statement of life affirmation, with recent collaborations including Stevie Nicks and The Weeknd. Just her best-known hits are enough to fill up a full-length festival performance.

Earlier this summer, the world’s most popular cartoon band issued The Now Now with new material and well-known songs such as Clint Eastwood and Saturnz Barz. Damon Albarn’s animated project with artist Jamie Hewlett has landed the band collaborations with Savages singer Jehnny Beth and American hip-hop artist Mos Def. The Sziget crowd now has another chance to dive into their virtual realm.

At the peak of his career, living rap legend Kendrick Lamar hits the Sziget stage with a fusion of gangsta rap, jazz, funk, soul and hip hop. Earning the 2018 Pulitzer Prize for Music made Lamar the first non-jazz or classical artist to win the award. Also known as K-Dot, the American star has worked with such influential music-industry masters as Taylor Swift, Beyoncé, The Weeknd and ASAP Rocky. Who knows what he has in store for Sziget?

One of 21st century’s most important rock bands return to Budapest. With the newly released Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino completing a seven-album discography, lead vocalist Alex Turner and his multi-award-winning ensemble are provide a fitting finale to the last day of Sziget. Expect touches of loungey pop, glam and psychedelia as showcased on their most recent LP.

The War On Drugs
Building on classic American song-writing traditions, Philadelphia indie-rock formation The War On Drugs hype up their music with drone textures and ambient effects. The result? Bombastic numbers that make Adam Granduciel’s Grammy-winning band one of those acts that are main-stage suitable for Sziget.

London-born singer Dua Lipa has gone global since being nominated for the BBC Sound Of poll in 2016. Picking up Brit awards earlier this year, for Best Female Solo Artist and British Breakthrough Act, the vocalist has since appeared on Saturday Night Live, performed at the pre-match show for Champions League Final in Kiev and released a UK number one single with Scottish DJ Calvin Harris. In the pipeline are a second studio album after 2017’s smash self-titled debut, and a series of dates in China, Thailand and Las Vegas to climax her 14-month world tour.

Mumford & Sons
Pioneers of the revived British folk-pop scene, Mumford & Sons, have chosen Sziget as their sole European festival appearance this year. Working on a fourth studio album due for release, a follow-up to the more rock-oriented Wilder Mind from 2015, the London group effortlessly convey their multi-instrumental bluegrassy style to a stadium-sized audience. Expect plenty of communal singing and dancing, with a bucolic musical backdrop.

Kyrre Gørvell-Dahll, aka Kygo, combines Scandinavian electro sensitivity with a Mediterranean mood, to become one of the most popular exponents of tropical house and a regular feature on radio playlists. Winner of the 2015 Spotify Breakout Artist Award, this Norwegian DJ/producer has garnered half a billion YouTube views with Firestone and has collaborated with the likes of Selena Gomez, Imagine Dragons and Miguel. After appearing at Sziget, Kygo takes his world tour to the Far East, promoting his most recent album, Kids In Love.

While the world waits on the will-they-won’t-they saga of any Oasis reunion, their former frontman goes on his merry way, touring on the back of his critically acclaimed debut solo album, As You Were, which was surprisingly strong and inspired by ballads and stadium-rock anthems. His Sziget appearance is expected to be a partial career retrospective, with the possibility of a Live Forever-Wonderwall climax.

Nick Murphy (Chet Faker)
Nick Murphy, who has brought soul-electronic-downtempo sounds back into fashion, is currently working under his own name after years of performing as his alter ego, Chet Faker. In the meantime, working with Flume and Say Lou Lou, remixing Radiohead or reworking Blackstreet’s No Diggity has not brought him recognition far beyond his native Australia. Faker or Murphy, his sensuous-emotional post-triphop seems to strike home every time.
