A little haven of health downtown, Oh My Green has just turned one year old. These past 12 months have been just enough for this outlet to attract numerous regular guests, create all-time favorites such as white-chocolate doughnuts and acai-tapioca smoothie and for introducing numerous novelties. We have had many fine breakfasts and light lunches at this food bar on Petőfi Sándor Street over the past year, but now we check back to celebrate its 1st birthday with tasty and healthy treats.

Although the name might let you think that Oh My Green is a grocery store, it’s not all green eats here. It is true that the most-used ingredients are vegetables, fruit and wheat, but white meats high in protein and fish are not excluded from the kitchen either. The approach here is rather to cook health-consciously and they strongly believe that, “the more colorful, the healthier”. But you can see for yourself at this small Petőfi Sándor Street bistro, casting your eye over the tempting selection presented at two counters.

The two counters are great for two reasons: The selection looks amazing and you can make up your mind quickly. By each dish there is a card displaying all of its ingredients, which eases your choice if you have special dietary needs. It is also a great opportunity to see that acai, goji berry and tapioca are not weird otherworldly things, but actually quite appetizing eats. And if something takes your fancy, you can also find it portioned-out in a box on the shelves.

The assortment includes creamy acai-tapioca smoothie (1,690 HUF) just as well as cup creams, bulgur with a twist, hearty salads, quiches, wraps, sweets and, lately, hot dishes. A number-one novelty is the oatmeal-based breakfast, but now they also make two kinds of main dishes (990 – 1,490 HUF) – a meaty and a vegan version – daily, as well as a soup. You can order these as a lunch special: On weekdays they always have a soup + main course or a main course + dessert combo (1,690 HUF – 2,050 HUF). Upon our visit, the selection was curry lentil soup with a vegan wrap or a goats’ cheese lunch box with turmeric-cranberry muffin, tempting guests with the possibility of a healthy, light but hearty lunch.

We still went with salads and hedonistically put together a portion from various kinds. A helping of 10 dkg costs 390 – 790 HUF but they are available portioned out in boxes as well. We also ordered a curd cheese-broccoli quiche (960 HUF) and a cup cream for dessert. We have healthy appetites, but still couldn’t manage dessert. Keep in mind that wholegrain products and superfoods are a lot more filling than they seem.

Regardless of what the stereotypes might suggest, these dishes are tasty. We would go back anytime for a curry-bulgur eggplant salad or for a superfood version (wild rice, broccoli, harissa, pumpkin seed, ricotta and peanut). At this point we have to mention that a meal here can always be concluded with tasty black java from My Little Melbourne. In return, OMG’s characteristic healthy bites are available at the café on Madách Square as well as at Oxygen Wellness and at Mantra.

OMG also does home delivery (if your order is above 12,000 HUF) and catering for special events. It is best to bear in mind that the more extra and carefully selected ingredients result in higher prices, but we still think they are pretty affordable.
