Zorall concert at Barba Negra, February 10th, 8pm
THE BAND: Turning what could’ve been a mere novelty act into an impressive career, the hard rockers of Zorall made it big on Hungary’s music scene by selecting classics of Magyar music and reinvigorating them with unexpected new sound styles, creating songs that are familiar to generations yet forever fresh to the band’s legions of fans. Since forming in 2002, Zorall – featuring several prominent Hungarian musicians from other bands who primarily play in this group for fun – has entertained huge crowds at festivals nationwide with songs like their hardcore renditions of Piramis’s pensive 1970s song “
Ha volna két eletem”, Péter Máté’s 1980s hit “
Régi út”, or the heartfelt pop favorite “
Valami véget ért” released by Ákos less than a decade ago.
THE VENUE: Tucked within an industrial zone of South Buda, the Barba Negra Music Club is one of the city’s biggest nightlife venues for concerts, usually of the hard-rocking variety. Here many living-legend Hungarian bands perform to prove that rock ’n’ roll will never die, although this is also a nightspot where almost-famous groups can have breakthrough shows. Barba Negra Music Club closes temporarily during warmer months, when the venue’s sister club Barba Negra Track is a popular open-air mini-festival spanning late spring through early fall.
THE SHOW: Celebrating the height of Carnival season (“Farsang” in Hungarian), Zorall will be performing in full costume during this concert, and pyrotechnics are likely; the pumped-up performers of Steroid will be warming up the stage.
