All day: Hungarian Month of Photography at various venues
For the biennial Hungarian Month of Photography, an eclectic range of exhibitions is being staged at an equally eclectic range of venues around Budapest. The opening one, Weegee – The Famous, 1935-1960, features 104 photos by Ukrainian photographer Arthur Fellig, aka Weegee, drawing an intimate portrait of New York in the mid 20th century. 6pm - Déli Doku Film Festival at the Bem Cinema and at Café Lumen
The Déli Doku festival, an event showcasing contemporary documentaries from Latin America, is held over this weekend in Budapest. Building a bridge across the Atlantic, this cinematic spectacle features films from Colombia, Mexico and Nicaragua, with English and Hungarian subtitles. Admission is free.
8pm - : Uto Karem at Tesla Budapest
It’s been 20 years since Uto Karem started carrying his record bag around the world, giving massive techno gigs in major clubs everywhere. Since 2008, this Italian DJ-producer has also been running his own record label, Agile Recordings, with artists such as UMEK and Christian Smith. On Friday, he appears at Tesla Budapest.
11:30pm - 5am: Los Santos Party/'80s', '90s','00s' HipHop, Rap at A38
A fun Hallowe'en party awaits at the A38 Ship on Friday, with special décor, drinks discounts, new visual elements and great music.
Saturday
8am – 2pm: Czakó Piacz at Czakó Kert
Czakó Piac is a farmer's market full of friendly vendors, awaiting visitors in the lovely garden of an old Hungarian peasant house on the Buda side. Stalls offer organic products, vegetables, eggs, mouthwatering meat, handcrafted cheeses, wild mushrooms and countless unique specialities that are not available elsewhere in the capital. The chef at Czakó Kert prepares the best breakfasts and lunchesfrom the delicacies available here while the market is open. This time, fresh pork products feature.
Noon - 6pm: Szimplant at Szimpla Kert
Szimplant is a day for all those with green fingers. The event features a quiz, plant adoption, exhibitions, talks, performances and good music.
10pm - : Gold Digger at Yellow Budapest
If you are after a party for Saturday night, head to the foot of the Chain Bridge for some r'n'b and hip hop. You need to be at least 21 to enter this party, and the dress code is smart casual.
11pm - : GusGus Live at Akvárium Klub
Two years after their sold-out concert at the Akvárium Klub, GusGus return to Budapest on Saturday. Besides favourite hits such as Over, Add This Song and Crossfade, the Icelandic electronic ensemble will be performing songs from their new album, Lies Are More Flexible, to the Budapest audience.
11pm - 5am: Gerappaaa at VOLT Lokál
Don sassy socks, choker necklaces, or baggy pants and a baseball cap as the songs of Eminem, the Backstreet Boys, Britney Spears, the Pussycat Dolls, the Spice Girls and other treasures from the ’90s trash bag are back again. Head to VOLT Lokál on Saturday night and travel back in time with the hottest hits of your youth. Entry is free.
Sunday
10am - 6pm: Second-hand Clothes Market at Akvárium Klub
On Sunday, a huge clothes fair takes place at the Akvárium Klub, so you can browse second-hand and vintage wonders all day long.
3pm and 7pm: Recirquel: My Land at the Palace of Arts (Müpa)
Recirquel’s latest production was inspired by human dependence on Mother Earth. This new, unconventional take on contemporary circus has its Hungarian premiere this week at the Palace of Arts.
7:30pm - : Caligula's Horse at Dürer Kert
Australian progressive metal band, Caligula’s Horse return to Budapest with a new album entitled In Contact on Sunday. The gig is organised by the A38 Ship, but is held at Dürer Kert.
8pm - : Laurel at Dürer Kert
The minimalist instrumentation used by this British lady complements her unique, robust voice that requires full attention. Some critics say Laurel is England’s riposte to Lana Del Rey. Her official debut album Dogviolet came out in August.
8:30 - 11pm: The House That Jack Built Pre-Premiere Screening at the Toldi Cinema
Lars von Trier’s serial killer drama The House That Jack Built is utterly controversial, having caused walkouts and outrage at Cannes. The House That Jack Built follows a serial killer (Matt Dillon) as he mutilates and strangles his victims, who are primarily women. The movie is extremely graphic. It screens with English audio and Hungarian subtitles before its Budapest premiere at the Toldi Cinema.
