Kicking off our new series of film shoots around Budapest, our video team of presenter Kata Fári and cameraman Dániel Horváth visited the two main Christmas markets in the city center, at Vörösmarty Square and in front of the Basilica. Kata chats to all kinds of vendors as she takes us from stall to stall, meeting everyone from beekeepers to music-box makers. As each craftsman explains the tricks of their trade, all around couples canoodle, children skate and 3D projections brighten up the Basilica. Come and see what Christmas in Budapest looks like!

Set to a jazzy soundtrack, our Christmas markets video captures the magic of a Budapest yule while letting us in on a few trade secrets. As she glides between the winter huts, kitchens and workshops around Vörösmarty Square, Kata Fári finds out how to make chimney cake, the secrets of the smithy and what it takes to make a music box.

Setting the scene at this showpiece square not five minutes’ walk from the Danube, Kata then moves from Vörösmarty across to the nearby Basilica, where a skating rink has been set up for the kids and mulled-wine stalls for the grown-ups. We finish our tour with stunning images of St. Stephen’s Basilica and a little a cappella accompaniment.
