Our regular roundup for the upcoming weekend offers plenty of suggestions for where to go, what to do, and who should not be missed during the next three days. There are always so many happenings to choose from in Budapest – exhibitions, parties, live music, festivals and more – but here is our pick of the bunch:

On Friday night, A38 Ship brings aboard one of Sweden's rowdiest rock'n'roll and power pop bands, the Royal Republic. Cutting riffs, drifting power, lunatic energy and an ingenious attitude make them the brothers of The Hives or The Eagles of Death Metal.

11:30pm - 4:30am: Budafcknbass / Borgore (Isr) at Barba Negra Music Club

One of the craziest electronic icons of the globe throws a bass parade at Barba Negra on Friday. The Israeli dubstep producer, DJ, singer-songwriter and rapper, Asaf Borger, characterizes his own genre simply as gorestep. Tickets are selling out, so better be quick!

11:30pm - 5am: Necc Party at Akvárium

Necc parties are always popular in Budapest and as Saturday's event has long been sold out, Akvárium holds another party on Friday night. So don a co-ord, sassy socks, choker necklaces or baggy pants and a baseball cap as the songs of Eminem, the Backstreet Boys, Britney Spears, Bon Jovi, the Spice Girls, Blink 182, and other treasures from the ’90s trash bag will be back in town here.

Saturday

7pm - 9pm: Recirquel Contemporary Circus Company: The Naked Clown at the Palace of Arts

Recirquel Contemporary Circus Company is an ensemble of 11 talented performers who aim to introduce a new genre of circus to the public. In their spectacle titled The Naked Clown, the clown’s life is coming to an end; he is about to enter the unknown, but before his final curtain call he needs to leave his ruffle behind, taking the last steps bearing only with the nakedness of his soul. In this production, the disguise is removed both literally and figuratively, as the performers invite the audience on an unusual inner journey into imaginary realms. The play is in Hungarian with English subtitles.

Sunday

9am - 2pm: Pancs Design and Gastro Fair at Pancs

This weekly market – enhanced with homely Hungarian ambience – includes various cooking and entertainment shows to accompany the culinary jamboree, where up-and-coming vendors offer handmade delicacies. This time, the atmosphere will be all Christmassy, and live music will entertain visitors who can try apple punch or mulled wine made on the spot, and various Hungarian dishes.

11am - : Heroes, Fairies, Clowns: Pierrot at the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music

Heroes, fairies and clowns take centre stage in the Liszt Kidz concert series this autumn for ten-to-15 year olds (not to mention their parents and grandparents). The final concert in this series features Pierrot lunaire written by Arnold Schönberg in 1912 and instrumentalized for voice and a small chamber orchestra. The magically colourful work not only shows children the figure of Pierrot and his dialogue with the Moon, but it also introduces them to the musical language of the early 20th century.

1pm - : Speedo Santa Run at Holmes Place

On Sunday underdressed Santas fill the city's streets and squares, going for a jolly jog together around town, wearing nothing else but swimsuits, sneakers and a Santa hat. Feel free to join this surreal scene if you’d like – the meeting point is at 1pm at Holmes Place in the Gozsdu Courtyard.
