During the summer months, visitors to Budapest’s Margaret Island encircle the park’s oversized fountain to enjoy a show of high-rising aqua jets forming rhythmic patterns in sync with popular tunes playing from several loudspeakers. However, a new upgrade makes this spectacular aquatic attraction even more enticing – from now on, those gathering around the musical fountain after sunset can immerse in an impressive presentation with photos projected on the water that portray famous imagery of Hungary’s history, while the surrounding trees will be illuminated with colorful lights.

At the top of every hour during summertime, beginning at 11am with the last session starting at 9pm, Margaret Island’s musical fountain presents several melodious routines throughout the day, as water spouts dance to a variety of music including classical tunes by renowned Hungarian composers, widely known pop songs, and moving rock-and-roll beats – and after sunset, this aquatic attraction is splashed with vibrant colors provided by hundreds of LED lights.

This vivid facility is considered to be one of the parkland’s main landmarks, but after a recent makeover, the fascinating fountain is now even more enticing, as it freshly features enlightening images of famous Hungarians and Magyar inventions, with pictures projected on the soaring waters every day between 9pm and 10pm.

To create this stunning sensation, a special jet was added to the fountain’s existing mechanical system that creates a 30-meter-wide and 10-meter-high fanlike “water canvas” where various animations are projected with special multimedia effects, creating 10x7-meter-large images. Screenings include a portrait of legendary Hungarian football player Ferenc Puskás surrounded by dozens of colorful footballs, and a bright manifestation of the Hungarian Rubik’s cube.

Besides this upbeat upgrade, some of Margaret Island’s surrounding century-old trees are now floodlit with multicolored hues, creating a light garden amid this sylvan oasis after the sun goes down.
