On the imaginary burger toplist of Budapest, Tuning on Akácfa Street definitely deserves a prominent place. The success of Tuning is based on the high-quality meals and positive mindset here, and the management has now taken these attributes to Beef Heaven as well, even though at this new unit the menu aims to be less burger-centric.
As the name describes, Liszt Ferenc Square’s new eatery invites everyone into a heaven of beef, but instead of St. Peter, Róbert Erdélyi – Beef Heaven’s owner – awaits everyone at the gate. After the success of Tuning, Róbert wanted to take a step further by launching Beef Heaven, believing that the future of hospitality lies in barbecue meals.
Following a short test period, the restaurant recently opened its gates; stepping in we find ourselves amid an elegant interior, where exposed brick walls, iron railings, and iron bars evoke an industrial atmosphere. Upstairs at the beer bar we find funny food-related jokes on the walls, while downstairs, huge window shutters and an open kitchen catch our eyes.
Besides Tuning-style burgers, we can also taste cool beef creations, mainly steaks and briskets. Making brisket is definitely very difficult, but we found it absolutely delicious here. They prepare the meats in a special smoker – there are a total of only four such smokers in Budapest – which can slowly roast a total of 100 kg of meat at once. When we say slowly, it means that the staff starts preparations at 8pm, only to leave the meats alone overnight for about 10-12 hours before roasting them for another 14 hours soaked in salt and in a secret ingredient; this is how they become as mouthwatering as they are.
We started with a cold brisket served with mango cream and sour radish (3,200 HUF) that already revealed the flavors of the main course. The slightly sour taste mingles with the sweet mango cream to virtually fly us to Asia. After this light starter we tried a bean soup with pork trotters (2,600 HUF) served with crispy bread, and these two courses almost filled us up completely.
As a main course we tried a Classic Burger (3,200 HUF) stuffed with a Grey Cattle patty, romaine lettuce, purple onions, cucumber, tomato, bacon, Irish cheddar, mustard, and tomato sauce, enhanced with onion marmalade, mayonnaise cabbage salad, and steak potatoes, and a screw. The screw seemed to be real, but just to console everyone, it is not made of steel. The burger itself is juicy, but not at all overly spicy, and the patty is medium-roasted.
The brisket came served in a bowl with roasted rice (5,800 HUF). The hearty and fatty meat deliberately comes with fresh, light, crispy, and slightly sour vegetables, so this melt-in-the-mouth brisket better evokes the flavors of Asia.
Considering their prices, Beef Heaven is not the most wallet-friendly place, but it is definitely worth a try, and Tuning’s regular guests get a 20% discount here. Furthermore, thanks to the flexible and guest-friendly attitude of this eatery, they never let anyone leave hungry in case they didn’t like their chosen meal. If that still happens, they do not charge for the price of the originally ordered dish, but rather let guests make a “safe choice”, whether it is a chicken breast or a basic burger.
All in all, we can say that this is a laid-back and cool hangout where we can truly fill the belly while enjoying excellent service.
