There are always so many happenings to choose from in Budapest – exhibitions, parties, live music, festivals, performances, and more – but here is our pick of the bunch for the imminent 72 hours or so:

Friday

7pm - : Kiskakas Animation Film Days at Toldi CinemaOrganized each year by the animation department of Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design (MOME Anim), Kiskakas Animation Film Days presents a selection of innovative and emerging hand-drawn and digitally created animation films from the most recent works of the amazing world of animation. This time, in addition to screening the films of Hungarian students, Kiskakas also hosts three leading animation schools from France.

Elle Fashion Show at Millenáris Park
The pulsing atmosphere of Paris fills Budapest’s Millenáris Park for two days this weekend, as the Elle Fashion Show is held in the Hungarian capital for the fifth time, featuring a futuristic approach this year. In addition to young French designers, both emerging and renowned Hungarian talents present their fall/winter collections for 2017/18 on the catwalk.

Károly Binder Quartett at the Budapest Music Center
As a pianist, composer, and university teacher at Budapest’s renowned Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music, Károly Binder lends his talent to new trends, alternative cultures, and the synthesis of improvisation systems, without forgetting his own musical roots. On Friday, his quartet presents “N-Evergreens”, their recently released album that consists of standards entirely reinterpreted in terms of harmony, forms, and rhythm.

LÄRM: Casino Bangkok – Eomac at LÄRM
Dublin-based DJ Ian McDonnell assured his audience of his diversity over the past few years, whether we’re talking about analog house beats for “Trilogy Tapes”, Irish dance music for “Unknown To The Unknown”, his-now-ten-year-old project “Lakker”, or his solo album of beautifully spooky melodies. On Friday, he brings his special sounds to Larm Budapest. 11pm - 6am:

VAULT – Stephan Bodzin live at TEREM Budapest

As the son of an experimental musician, German techno DJ Stephan Bodzin first experimented with composing music for European theaters, which proved to be the first successful platform for his music. However, he soon realized that his true love was electronic music, and from then on, he has been conquering hearts with his special and unique sound that even got a name from DJ Hell: “the Bremen sound”. On Friday, he steps onstage at TEREM Budapest.
Saturday

10am - 10pm: Majális (May Day Celebration) at City ParkBetween Saturday and Monday, City Park will be the venue of a three-day-long family-friendly festival, where a fun fair, gastronomical delights, and a small market offering charming merchandise entertain crowds. Several local singers and entertainers step on stage during these three days, further increasing the fun-factor at this easygoing gathering.
More details 10am - 7pm: Xbox One PlayIT Show Budapest at HungexpoTry the newest games, check out cutting-edge consoles, and meet like-minded people at the five-year-old PlayIT Show, the region’s largest gamer and IT event. In 2017, in addition to five Hungarian cities (Budapest, Debrecen, Győr, Szeged, Pécs), this exciting event is also held in Belgrade. Furthermore, visitors will also have the chance to meet two actors from HBO’s hot series Game of Thrones, Gemma Whelan and Daniel Portman, at Hungexpo on Saturday.

11am - 8pm: Street Food Picnic at Gundel RestaurantSpring is the time for energy boosting and relaxation; hence, the garden of Budapest’s renowned Gundel Restaurant fills up with food trucks offering mouthwatering meals made of healthy ingredients. Furthermore, live music, children’s programs, and gardening workshops entertain crowds between April 29 and May 1st in the restaurant’s garden.

2pm - 4pm: Silkscreen-printing Workshop at Printa On April 29th, Printa – Budapest’s stylish printing studio and concept store – hosts a creative English-language workshop, where participants can immerse in silkscreen-printing processes. 11:30pm - 5am: A38 Birthday Bash #14: Chris Travis (US) at A38 American hip-hop recording artist Chris Travis from Memphis is best known for being the originator of the “WaterBoyz” lifestyle and movement. He is part of the underground hip-hop collective “SESHOLLOWATERBOYZ” and the “East Memphis Boys”. On Saturday he performs for the very first time in Hungary at A38, as part of the ship’s big birthday bash.Sunday

9am - 2pm: Szimpla Farmers’ Market at Szimpla Kert One of the most popular ruin pubs in Budapest – Szimpla on Kazinczy Street – fills up every Sunday with a friendly artisanal farmers’ market, where you can buy locally made goods and fresh produce such as fruits, cheeses, vegetables, honeys, jams, mushrooms, cold cuts, and homemade lemonades and syrups.

10am - 6pm: “Enslaved – A Visual Story of Modern-Day Slavery” at Kogart HouseAcclaimed American humanitarian photographer Lisa Kristine’s heart-wrenching photos of modern slavery can be viewed at the Kogart House for the last time on Sunday.
Lisa Kristine has been capturing exploited or enslaved workers worldwide over the past decade, mostly in poverty-stricken Third World countries. In her photos, we can see people panning for gold in Ghana, Indian textile makers, or glimpse into the brothels of Sonagachi, Asia’s largest red-light district.

The Naked Clown

Recirquel Contemporary Circus Company
is an ensemble of 11 talented performers who aim to introduce a new genre of circus to the public. In their spectacle titled The Naked Clown, the clown’s life is coming to an end; he is about to enter the unknown, but before the “final curtain call” he needs to leave his collar behind, taking the last steps only with the nakedness of his soul. In this production, the disguise is removed both literally and figuratively, as the performers invite the audience on an unusual inner journey into imaginary realms. The play is in Hungarian with English subtitles.

International Jazz Day at the Budapest Jazz Club
On the occasion of the International Jazz Day, two prominent guitarists of the Hungarian jazz scene, István Gyárfás and Bálint Gyémánt, jam together on Sunday evening, making up random and spontaneous formations to entertain the audience as well as each other with swing, blues, and bossa classics with a twist. The Hive: Amoss (UK) at
Akvárium Klub The members of the English duo The Hive met at a house party in 2006, and thanks to their mutual love for music, they immediately decided to work together. After experimenting in a few bands, they got to love electronic music, especially drum and bass, and became attracted to a dark sound. On April 30th they step onstage at Akvárium Klub.
