Budapest’s newest mega-healthy breakfast spot, Oh My Green, could easily be based in London, Copenhagen, or California. Following Western trends, instead of meat- and egg-based meals or cheese sandwiches, this fresh eatery offers health-conscious courses containing superfoods. Almost all of their meals and drinks contain matcha, chia, acai powder, goji berries, or even spirulina. OMG does not label itself as vegetarian or organic, but strives to reach out to an audience that needs, appreciates, and can afford a healthy lifestyle.

We can find countless juice bars and hangouts offering healthy meals and drinks around downtown Budapest; however, the newest addition blends these two concepts, and serves complete breakfasts and lunches to people who follow alternative diets. The interior of Petőfi Sándor Street’s Oh My Green is the work of Alíz Matisz, and is enhanced with a Scandinavian touch with wooden surfaces and without a cavalcade of colors. Plants fit really well into this neutral interior, and soon this spacious hotspot will also be complete with a terrace boasting even more greenery.

We like this system, where instead of picking something unseen from a big blackboard, we can walk around a counter that guides us into the healthy world of ingredients rich with vitamins and trace elements labeled with small signs. Of course, we can also pick something that we fancy from here, as the deliberately transparent packaging nicely reveals everything inside, as well as the components and every piece of important information.

Their kitchen is found on the Buda side, and they only do the finishing touches at this location. The repertoire is truly wide, stretching from smoothies to more complex meals. None of these courses have ever seen any sugar, and in order to keep a natural taste, they also refrain from using too much salt in their meals. Soon they will also put complete lunch boxes together that are suitable for those in a hurry as well. When we asked if it is possible to devour the meals on a plate when dining in, they said that they prefer just having boxes.

We tried their smoothies, which instead of being really dense drinks, are actually complete breakfast meals. Our favorite was the acai version (1,490 HUF): in this cup, pressed superfood fruits and vegetables, granola, and more fruits are found in layers, and the acai berries sit on coconut-milk tapioca pudding. The house frittata (590 HUF) is tasty, creamy, and very pink, thanks to the yogurt beetroot, eggplant, and black sesame (1,390 HUF). We also tried the lentil salmon salad and chili shrimp with vegetables (1,390 HUF). The snacks, such as spicy roasted nuts or vegetable cuts, cost between 490 and 1,290 forints.

They also have some – of course natural – desserts here: the dark-chocolate mini-doughnut sprinkled with goji berries (490 HUF) is truly tasty. These desserts can be perfectly paired with coffee that comes from Racer Beans.

Following a healthy lifestyle is not the cheapest way to live. Those who choose to eat clean, and refrain from hedonistic food havens, know that not only hot yoga and Pilates classes are expensive, but also thriving to indulge in natural and healthy meals day by day. Hence, this type of eatery cannot actually be too wallet-friendly. Nonetheless, Oh My Green however is tasteful and stylish, and will surely soon find its audience.
