We recently found a small but amazing juice bar in downtown District V on Nádor Street. The Juiceline aims to provide the busy citizens of downtown Budapest with healthy juices made with organic fruits and vegetables every day. The cold-pressed juices are made with absolutely no additives or preservatives, and there are hardly any physical problems that they can’t help cure – be it a hangover or a simple lack of energy.

The small shop might not catch our eyes at first, but beneath the store’s sign, passersby might spot kind staff members offering free juice samples in tiny glasses. Anyone who tastes a juice or two will almost certainly be drawn inside to assess the full selection, and as we step in, we are greeted by a minimalistic white interior design and three refrigerators filled with juice. It’s usually the owner, Nicole Horváth, who stands behind the counter, and whom we can turn to with any question we might have, whether it’s our first time at a juice bar or we’re already notorious detox lovers. The Juiceline is more than just a juice bar – their goal is to provide hurrying citizens with a pure source of vitamins. They work with organic ingredients and use no additives or preservatives, so the drinks only stay fresh for a maximum of 3-5 days.

The juices are organized according to the Pantone color chart, so instead of fantasy names, numbers distinguish nearly 20 kinds of drinks. Customers can choose their favorite based on this system of numbers and colors, although in addition to a list of ingredients, the bottles also show the beneficial effects and nutritional information of each drink. The useful-yet-stylish product design is the work of graphic designer Miklós Kiss.

The selection of flavor combinations is creative and comprehensive, and includes some rather surprising pairings, as well. Such is the rather popular Black, which is made from activated coconut charcoal, chia seeds, vanilla extract, and honeydew melon. We can also taste versions made from cold-brewed coffee and homemade almond milk, but vegetable lovers won’t be disappointed with the selection either, as The Juiceline also offers juices made exclusively from vegetables. The drinks are available in two bottle sizes – 250 ml (690 HUF) and 500 ml (1190 HUF, vegetable/fruit versions from 1690 HUF) – and we can even take a six-pack in a exclusively designed cardboard carrier. The selection changes seasonally, although there are some permanent items, as well. The shop opened only about three months ago and already became rather popular, which is probably due to its fortunate location, as well. If Szabadság Square somehow falls outside our field of vision, there’s still no need to fret – the drinks of The Juiceline will soon be available at several downtown cafés, and they plan on offering delivery in the near future.
