Our weekly roundup for the upcoming weekend offers plenty of suggestions for where to go, what to do, and who must not be missed during the next three days. There are always so many happenings to choose from in Budapest – exhibitions, parties, live music, festivals, performances, and more – but here is our pick of the bunch for the imminent 72 hours or so:

Friday

10am - 8pm: Grand Opening at Mr. Funk Budapest’s newest and most funky donut eatery opens its doors on Friday, awaiting everyone with a wide variety of sugary treats, shakes, bagels, and free samples. If you have a serious sweet tooth or just love this classic American pastry, make sure to be here!

11am - 8pm:Art Market Budapest 2016 at Millenáris Cultural CenterCentral Europe’s premier showcase for contemporary art is organized for the sixth time in 2016 during October 13-16, when Art Market Budapest presents thousands of works by some 500 artists in a labyrinthine display space covering almost 6,000 square meters of Millenáris Park’s expo facilities. The 100 exhibitors from 25 countries include all of the important galleries of Hungary. The section called Art Photo Budapest devotes an entire exhibition hall to photography, while sCULTURE – a spectacular outdoor display of statues among the buildings of Millenáris – adds another dimension to the special selection inside.
8pm - 9pm: TAO Dance Theater - 6 & 7 at TrafóFormed in 2008 by Beijing-based choreographer Tao Ye, TAO Dance Theater is known for its collaborations across various art forms to create mesmerizing, trance-like dance performances. In 6 & 7, the choreographer continues his numbered series of experiments that explores the potential of the human body in a purely visual form.

In 6, his six dancers move in dynamic and hypnotizing unison amid a shifting landscape of light created by Swedish lighting designer Ellen Ruge. Next, 7 continues Tao Ye’s fascination with pattern, precision, and ritual, distinguished by a soundtrack of acoustic effects generated by the seven dancers’ bodies.
9pm - 2am: A38 Night/Life Presents Mount Kimbie (Live), BeGun, Gelka, Iamyank at A38 ShipOne of post-dubstep’s bright lights, Mount Kimbie throws a genre-evading live performance at A38! The duo’s influence spans far beyond the tiny corner of the dance music underground and being signed to the legendary Warp label, it might be stretched even further in the coming years.
10pm - 5am: Tanz Global Presents Wolf Müller aka Bufiman at Toldi KlubDJ and producerJan Schulte is never satisfied with musical stereotyping and produces different odd styles of dance music under various alter egos, one of them being Wolf Müller. As a resident DJ at the infamous Salon des Amateurs for more than five years, he was part of the club’s expedition into the unknown wilderness of peculiar and experimental dance music. In his heavily percussive and enthusiastic DJ sets he light-footedly jumps genres and decades from African-inspired krautrock to emotional voodoo techno to forgotten B-side classics. Welcome to the jungle, baby!

11pm - 3am: Hernan Cattaneo at Akvárium Klub Hernan Cattaneo is an Argentinian DJ and producer genius, and the king of Latino house – his 30 years of experience enabled him to be the most influential electronic musician of Argentina; he bewitches hundreds of fans with his works, and inspired plenty of generations. Saturday

6pm - 10.30pm:
American Beauty
at Bem CinemaSinister, poignant, and ultimately uplifting – this darkly comic social drama features a meditation on midlife crisis under the pressure of suburban tedium. Starring Kevin Spacey as Lester Burnham, Annette Bening as his wife Carolyn, and Thora Birch as his daughter Jane, American Beauty won five Academy awards and became a cult movie and a smart, provocative high point of late ’90s mainstream Hollywood film. Original (English) audio, Hungarian subtitles on Saturday. Screenings start at 6pm and 8.30pm.
8am - 9pm:Festival of Logic Games at WestEnd City CenterThose who fancy playing chess with the masters, darts with friends, or anyone who enjoys centuries-old and modern-day board games will find exciting activities at the rooftop terrace of WestEnd City Center this weekend.

7pm - : Toto Cutugno at TüskecsarnokItalian musician Toto Cutugno gained international recognition in the 1980s, when he won the San Remo song festival with “Solo noi”. At his concert in Budapest, he performs some of his the greatest hits, such as “L’italiano”, “Donna donna mia”, “Soli”, and “Innamorati”, as well as “Serenata” and “Insimie”.

7pm - : A Short Outline of Everything (Krótki zarys wszystkiego) at Átrium Film & TheaterInvestigating new artistic forms of expression with the involvement of the latest technologies and multimedia devices – this could be a short description of the work done by the Polish Cloud Theater. A Short Outline of Everything undertakes nothing less than to tell the story of the world. The viewers can watch the history of thousands of years from a bird’s-eye view. Boasting special visuals and performed entirely live, the production provides a unique synthesis of theater, film, and a variety of visual arts.

8pm - 5am: Dub FX at Barba Negra Music ClubBenjamin Stanford could be called the most restless musician: he experiments all the time; he is a little crazy, but he creates really harmonic music at all times. True to his name, Dub FX will surprise his audience with something very exciting this weekend.
8.30pm - 10.30pm: Jerry Lee Rock & Roll Service “11” & Chuck Berry “90” at Muzikum ClubThe tribute band plays piano-based, danceable rock and roll all night long. The 11th anniversary of the band’s foundation is combined with Chuck Berry’s 90th birthday at a high-spirited concert at Muzikum Klub.Sunday

11am - 22pm: Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Central Europe SS17 at Várkert BazaarSome of Central Europe’s most talented designers from Hungary, the Czech Republic, Poland, Slovakia, Serbia, and Croatia showcase their collections in Budapest, while the Gombold újra!

Central Europe closing show and award ceremony will be one of the event’s highlights.
4pm - 6pm:

Electro-Acoustic Ensemble – Sonic Mountain
at Trafó This ensemble was formed by Christian Kobi to explore the possibilities of real-time signal processing in an improvising context. For this project, musicians will perform in duets featuring acoustic and electronic styles. The musicians previously performed together in various formations (duets, trios, quartets).

4.30pm - 9pm: The Sting at Bem Cinema This 1973 crime caper is the definitive con-artist comedy, which reunited Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid director George Roy Hill with stars Robert Redford and Paul Newman. This Academy-award-winning movie also proved that charm, humor, and a few slick twists can add up to a great film:
The Sting is nothing else but top-notch entertainment. Original audio, Hungarian subtitles at the following screening times: 4.30pm and 7pm.

7.30pm - :

Steve Reich 80
at MüpaOne week after the actual day, leading artists of Hungarian classical music will celebrate the 80th birthday of Steve Reich, who is probably the most important living representative of musical minimalism.

The Hungarian public can watch a live performance of City Life, a unique experiment in many regards, which integrates the atmosphere of New York in the score, including the honking of cabs, the noise of jackhammers, foghorns, and the sound of closing subway doors. Another new composition on show will be Radio Rewrite, Reich’s first piece inspired by two songs of Radiohead.
