Our weekly roundup for the upcoming weekend offers plenty of suggestions for where to go, what to do, and who must not be missed during the next three days. There are always so many happenings to choose from in Budapest – exhibitions, cocktails, live music, festivals, performances, and more – but here is our pick of the bunch for the imminent 72 hours or so:

Friday

4pm - 1am: DreherFeszt at Dreher Breweries (Budapest 1106, Jászberényi Street 7-11) It’s time for Dreher’s brewery festival, DreherFeszt, featuring unique beer specialties flowing from some 140 taps at this special location of Budapest’s Kőbánya district, while concerts entertain the tipsy on two stages. On both August 26th and 27th, the local Dreher Brewery serves as the venue for the two-day program series, including tours that shed light on the secrets of beer brewing. On Friday, be sure to catch the performances of hip-hop duo Akkezdet Phiai, kozmische electro-pop cadets Zagar, or the up-and-coming Superstereo. Cheers!
5pm - 10pm:

Friday
at A38 ShipWhite Russian.

Mojito.

Long Island Iced Tea.

Sex On The Beach.

Gin and Tonic. These are just a few of our favorites that always help us to start the weekend in a really good mood. You pay for one and get two, while the Bladerunnaz DJs play their favorite liquid funk and drum-and-bass records. A soft warmup for what is coming in the forthcoming two days and three nights. Sunshine, chill times, good music, good people – all on the Danube.

7.30pm - 10pm: New Orleans Swing Festival at Müpa Feel the Big Easy spirit during the last weekend of August at Budapest’s Palace of Arts. On August 26th, Group&Swing steps on stage to present a high-flying show in the Festival Theater, and on the following day, Papa Jazz – a band of Hungarian musicians fond of New Orleans jazz – performs together with Scott Robinson. On the closing day, the Dixie Kings of Hungary – a local band playing swing and jazz – performs alongside a lively virtuoso showman, Enrico Tomasso.

8pm - : Ceremony Of Bittersweet Harmonies at Auróra If you are tired of school, your job, your relationship, or just want to let it all out and see how colorful and unique the Hungarian underground is, this mini-festival is for you! The lineup includes basement-ish emo-grunge rockers Mirror Twin, screamo act Pepi Rössler, neocrust-dbeat bulldozer Tomusz, riot-punk-girl squad Camp Koala, post-hardcore band Libido Wins, and others. Get down!
11pm - 6am: Breakbeat Massive VS Drum And Bass at Corvin Club Soundclash! Breakbeat Massive will bring old-school breaks from the golden era of the genre – the DJs will only spin vinyls, and the music that will blast from the speakers will only be from between 2002-2008. But, Chris.SU and Statik will stand behind the decks too to throw some classic drum ’n’ bass hits in the mix, and to blow Corvin Club’s roof. Legendary Hungarian DJ Palotai will play an old-school set, and Kid Panel will also give your legs a good workout. A banging way to wave goodbye to the weekdays.Saturday

Yes, that’s the case at JazzaJ’s special “brunch” events, where experimental soundscapes and hearty morning starters come hand in hand. On this Saturday, the Unstable Music Ensemble, a band that is composed of a singer, a bass clarinet player, a member who handles electronica, and another who plays on a five-string violin, will perform at Lumen.

What’s not to like about this plan?

11pm - 6am: Contra Mundum Residency – Mattia Fontana at Corvin ClubMattia Fontana is one of the most interesting young Italian talents. He is working for Clique project, and with years of hard efforts, he earned a strong reputation as a DJ who knows how to get any kind of audience on the dance floor – and our senses tell us that the local crowd won’t be able to resist his hypnotic grooves and kicking bass lines.
9pm - 7am: Cinema Bizarre & Secret Cinema – Classic Edition at Csillebérc Camp Founded by the Girls & Mathematics crew, Cinema Bizarre is like a huge film-themed party, an open-air gathering, a bizarre adventure for scouts, and more – all of this at the same time. To be more specific, if you are wondering what kind of party John Hughes would throw if he would gave up directing to become an event organizer instead, here is your answer: heartwarming, fun, honest, and a bit bizarre.

Not to mention that before the party starts with Route 8, Tom Select, Adam Merten, Manek, and Hi, Budapest Secret Cinema will screen Nicholas Winding Refn’s The Neon Demon with original audio and Hungarian subtitles.Sunday

DJ Palotai Presents Sunday Sessions
at A38 Ship What happens when one of the most famous Hungarian DJs stands behind the decks for an entire afternoon?

DJ Palotai, who is known for his eclectic sets, will spin his favorites from all genres and eras for hours – and believe us, everything can blast from the speakers, from bass music to hip-hop to jazz. Grab a cocktail, get in the mood, and relax.
7pm - 11.45pm: Budapest Rooftop Cinema Presents Belgica at Corvin ClubFelix van Groeningen’s Belgica is essentially a tale of two brothers who don’t know when the party is over. Jo (Stef Aerts), twentysomething, is not very tall and can only see through one eye. He once had artistic ambitions, but his love for music eventually made him start a bar called Belgica. Frank (Tom Vermeir) is several years older and he is the big brother on all levels. The duo quickly turns Belgica into the hotspot of nightlife, but even hedonism can go wrong, and behind the joyful nihilism of messy nights out and Soulwax’s great soundtrack, there is drama. A lot of it. Belgica will be screened with original audio and Hungarian subtitles.
