Piranha feeding, wombat watching, and a monkey parade are just a few of the living attractions of Hungary’s Night of Zoos, happening on Friday, August 26th. Everyone is welcome to become a nocturnal species alongside the huge variety of wild creatures on display at any of the 12 participating Magyar menageries, including three animal parks in Budapest. During this fifth-annual event highlighting all kinds of cute critters from land and sea, additional entertainment is provided by fire jugglers and magic bubbles all the way until the clock strikes midnight.

In and near Budapest, plenty of exciting programs await visitors at nightfall on the last Friday of August at the Budakeszi Vadaspark, the Tropicarium, and the Budapest Zoo. The entrance fee varies with the venues, but with a combined ticket guests can visit all three of the aforementioned Magyar menageries with just one pass (adult: 3,500 HUF, children: 2,400 HUF). The tickets are valid for three whole days, so you definitely don’t have to rush your visit trying to cram everything in one day – but keep in mind that at the Budapest Zoo the ticket is only valid on Friday. On this special day, in addition to the usual fascinating flora and fauna, many other extraordinary programs and animal feedings will boost your mood.

At the Budakeszi Vadaspark, the fun starts at 7pm; 45-minute-long organized tours start every hour, at 8pm, 9pm, and 10pm. The zookeepers guide animal enthusiasts through the secret life of the magical animal world at nighttime. Among many other cute creations, visitors can see Muci (the singing golden jackal), interesting insects made visible by special light-traps, and watch a presentation about birds. Also on this special day, the adventure park is open until midnight.

At the Budapest Zoo, programs are held between 7pm and midnight; the seal pool will be lit up, so guests can enjoy the splendid seal show even in the evening. There will also be elephant training, wombat watching, giraffe feeding, piranha and moray feeding, snake stroking, a venomous snake presentation, and a monkey parade. Opposite from the orangutans at the “kedvencek klubja”, visitors can catch up-close views of some amazing animals, while outside bubbles will fly, fire jugglers frolic, and an ice-sculpture show catches all passing eyes. Meanwhile, at the Tropicarium nighttime feedings are held between 8pm and midnight; the colorful stonefish are fed at 8:30pm, the alligators at 9:30pm, the snakes at 10pm, and the morays at 10:30pm.
