The “Art of Freedom” project also has its own blog (in Hungarian), introducing the 60 artworks separately. Of these, 54 pieces are works by Hungarian artists, while six were made by foreign artists and creative groups. In 2016, the most imaginative, spectacular, or surprising projects were chosen from a total of 200 applications. There are creations that blend into the festival environment perfectly, while others rather reflect free creation and the diversity of the festival with their size and presentation. We like both the functional pieces and those that only serve as decoration, and recommend everyone to discover these artworks with an open eye – even while partying – day and night, since many projects of “Art of Freedom” gain new meaning and become even more alluring with the change of lighting conditions.
The artworks are scattered throughout the Sziget Festival, but the Art Zone and the area next to the A38 Stage has a lot of surprises in store, as well – the installations can even pop up in the camping areas. Recycling was also an important aspect, so most works were made in the spirit of “upcycling”. Here are a few photos of our favorite projects of this year’s festival, amid their “natural environment”.
