What could be better than a sweet and juicy fresh strawberry? How about a sweet and juicy fresh strawberry coated in chocolate, cinnamon, coconut, and any number of other tasty ingredients? And how about if these enhanced strawberries were creatively decorated to become edible artworks? While such delicious dipped-strawberry delicacies are fairly common in the USA, it has taken awhile for this tempting treat to reach Hungary – but since The Strawberry Project Budapest launched in February, these delightful desserts have already found many fans in the Magyar metropolis.

Nowadays, it’s not too hard to find a unique present in
Budapest: there are all kinds of designer stores, special flower shops, and boutiques catering to sweet-toothed people of all persuasions. We’ve already discovered local places for individually wrapped macarons, gourmet bonbons, and desserts served in Mason jars – but it wasn’t until recently that we could rely on a shop to serve strawberries dipped in chocolate here in Hungary’s capital.

Fanny, the founder of The Strawberry Project Budapest, told us that she loves chocolate, strawberries, and presents. At first, she only made chocolate-coated strawberries at home for her friends, but soon so many requests piled up that she decided to move her operations from home to a kitchen downtown, so now her special desserts can be ordered for special occasions and tasted individually at The Strawberry Project Budapest, without making a special appointment.
At this small shop, you can buy single strawberries (600 HUF apiece) or a box of them, containing a mix of different flavors. How many strawberries are in a box? Well, that depends on you. The smallest is a three-pack version, but we heard about a man who surprised the love of his life with a package containing no less than 60 strawberries. But that costs a fortune: a ten-piece box, for example, costs 10,000 forints. Customers can choose among all kinds of coatings: white or dark chocolate, coconut, cinnamon, metal-colored, marshmallow, Oreo, or even gold powder. They can even pack a small bottle of champagne into the box, too.The Strawberry Project Budapest also offers some liquid refreshers like flavored lemonades and champagne cocktails (from 1,200 HUF) and soon they'll open a terrace for enjoying all of these delights under the summer sun. Fanny also told us that she is working on opening another store in Vienna, and locations in Moscow and Athens will also join the franchise.
