For a long time MOME has been working to show that design is not something for a select few, but something that everyone should be able to access and enjoy.
The university has made several attempts at bringing the works of designers to the general public. One of the best is undoubtedly their new initiative:
Download Design.
Through the first Hungarian open design initiative, designers can share their specialist knowledge with anyone, online. In this case, various furniture designs can be downloaded with a single click.
Examples include the wood panels (by Paula Németh), which are “mobile, variable furniture components that we can place on a respective wall surface in any quantity and configuration.”
Among the downloadable designs, we can also find variable Hook & Lee stools. These are “well adapted to small spaces because of the adjustable support bars and rotation capacity. Its accessories can be varied according to the user’s needs. The stools can function as both containers and tables, and do well in many parts of the home from the living room and the lobby to the children’s room.”
According to the plans, the project will continue for several years, with different themes each year. In 2015, the central concept is “my first home.” The university’s students designed furniture that would be the most useful at the beginning of someone's independent, adult life.
