Welcome Rosie! The African penguin nestling born at the Budapest Zoo in September.

Rosie is the 26th African penguin to have hatched at the Budapest Zoo. To be exact, she was born on September 26 and she's been charming her parents and carers ever since. Of the parents, Willy, the father, also hatched in Budapest. As is the worldwide custom, Rosie was separated from the others at the age of 35 days; she will return to them in January. And after this time, the public will also be able to see her.

The special thing about the newborn - that weighs 2 kilos - is that its gender cannot be told yet for sure. It eats mostly fish, especially herring, which is a little warmed up for her.

The Budapest Zoo has a considerable past of keeping and breeding penguins.

The first penguin to hatch in Budapest was Felix in November 1994. With this new arrival, the penguin colony at the Zoo numbers a total of 30 penguins.
