See the remaining paternoster lifts of Budapest
A paternoster lift is a passenger elevator, which consists of a series of open compartments that move slowly in a loop carrying people up and down from floor to floor. The once revolutionary lift was named for its similarity to a string of rosary beads. Surrounded by funny anecdotes, fears of getting trapped and some widespread misconceptions, we uncover Budapest’s surviving old-school paternosters.
