The Margaret Island (Margitsziget) is the green heart of our city. It lies in the middle of the Danube between Margaret and Árpád Bridges. Apart from a couple of hotels and sport facilities, there are no buildings on the Island, it serves as a huge green park with promenades and benches in the shadows. Only buses and taxis are allowed to cross the island, the traffic is insignificant. Families, sportsmen, active people love the island, if you just want to relax or stroll around, you should definitely spare some time for the island. Important sights and facilities on the island are the Hajós Alfréd National Swimming and Sport Pool (hosting water EC-s), Palatinus Beach, a couple of middle-age church ruins, the Water Tower, the Japanese Garden, the Rose Garden and the Singing Fountains.
